The Foundation partners with Vancouver Rotary to coordinate the Lunch Buddy program. Since 1993, this important program has paired community members with elementary students who would benefit from an encouraging adult in their lives.
Children who are experiencing changes at home, difficulty in school, or those who simply need a positive role model in their lives, are referred by their teachers, counselors, or school administrators. Once a parent signs the permission form, students are matched with an adult. Buddies typically meet with their assigned student once a week, on school grounds, for about 45 minutes. Lunch can be followed by board games, reading, crafts, or just talking.
As an adult “Buddy,” you have the choice of school and day to come. Before being matched with a student, applicants must first pass a background check.
Every child needs a cheerleader. We need you!
Currently, all 21 Vancouver elementary schools participate in the Lunch Buddy program. The list of students waiting to be placed with a buddy is growing.
